Hi all,

I am looking for a way to reliably keep a count of how many times a file is downloaded by the world, whether from our site directly, or through a link embedded in an email. Here's why I haven't been able to figure this out yet:

  • It's shared hosting through 3Essentials, & they've told me that I can't install anything directly on the server to do this.
  • Our research library is accessed by the public through an SQL Template Repeater, which puts up different links for each line of a database, depending on whether or not there are values in the "link" fields. Site is http://floridataxwatch.org/research.aspx in case you want to look @ what I mean.
  • We have to embed a link to each pdf in a press release and membership announcement with their publication, so most of those pulling the pdfs down are likely doing so from emails, not by clicking on a link on our site.

I'm open to almost anything at this point.  I just need to be able to say that "sample.pdf" was downloaded XX times, I don't need to know by whom, or anything else really.

Any ideas?

Thanks. Chris

Instead of linking to a file, why don't you link to a page that has a download link on it? Then you can use google analytics or something to track conversions.

as long as you are using links to the files directly instead of a LinkClick.aspx, DNN is not involved in the download call and unable to count it.
