Hi Cathal,

Thanks for your reply, I was afraid so.

In this case we've got sponsor logo's in a grid. We don't want to add HTML structure in the HTML module, then the content manager would probably break the HTML structure when trying to add or remove logo's. That's why we've decided to use the DNN module containers as grid items, so the HTML module does contain any HTML structure that can be broken by the content manager.

This scenario is fairly common to me, but maybe that's because I'm doing something wrong?

Thanks for your time,

Hanneke

I can see why you might not want the content manager to be exposed to the html. Maybe here you just have to try it.

Things you might explore. If the performance is still acceptable to the users of the site then I would try taking a look with the developer tools of IE, Firefox/FireBug, Chrome/Chrome dev tools. I would look at the network performance and the performance of the browser. You may find that the server sends all it's material very quickly and the browser takes a long time to process it. If so it may be that switching to a different browser, or browser version, for the content manager will get some respite. I had a situation with a client complaining about performance. It turned out that the aged version of IE they used was particularly slow in processing the javascript.

Finally there may be a custom module you can buy, or get written, to just handle editing/displaying the logo's. If you cannot find one you like there are people competent to create one for you round here. If you contact me privately I'd be happy to discuss that. I'm Richard at dynamisys.co.uk.

Hi Richard,

When looking at the way the page builds up (all styles and images are loaded) when we're waiting for the edit icons to appear, I'd say it's definately the browser performance that's the issue here.

I found I have the problem myself as well and I'm using the latest Firefox and Chrome for testing. Actually, my IE10 seems to provide the best performance in this case.

I'll make sure the customer is working with the latest version of their preferred browser as well.

As suggested by Cathal, I've also entered this as an issue in Jira: https://dnntracker.atlassian.net/browse/DNN-4756

Thanks very much for your time!

Hanneke

I see your point (we used to do the same thing with our site templates for sponsors, but we put them all in 1 html module), websites would be easy accept for all the user...:)

In this kind of case though I'd suggest writing/buying something that would allow you to add/edit/delete a list of sponsors/images - this also would allow you to then add additional capabilities if desired e.g. count clickthrough rates, randomize the order etc.

I commented on the JIRA ticket you created, but as the issue is that its slow when switching to edit mode my guess is that its due to the javascript that executes to position the action buttons for 50 different modules and configures the drag and drop.

I am sure that reducing the module count will resolve it.
