How do I ban a user? Either by username or IP.. or both.

Highly doubt there is without modifying the core code (which I would imagine would be quite easy to trap).

Can you not switch your site to Verified and confirm each user?

Can't you just assign them to a new security role, "EvilDoers" and then:

  • Remove them from people able to view pages (this may require adjusting security settings for each page - which I suspect would take a custom 3rd party tmodule to do efficiently)
  • Or Redirect them to "special" page which could be their own special "purgatory"
  • Or there have been various posts about skins specific to username: give 'em their own special skin with just a solitare game on it...

In a pinch - here's what I do :

1) Prefix their email address with something like banned_ so they can't request the new password to find out what it is.
2) Change the user's password to something unknown to the user
2) Un-authorize the user

This way you can undo the process, but they can't login with that username.
