Hello,

I'd really like to be able to use the journal module, but I need to be able to set a specific group. This happens for us because we have fixed "groups" in our organization... So, we don't want people creating new groups, and each group has a specific page already.

Is there a way to make it so that the journal module can be just set to be in "group" mode for some set group all the time? I know I can do that with the members directory module - so it would be cool if I could do it for the journal module as well.

Mike

the journal module initially supported the concept of auto, user profile and group modes (http://www.dnnsoftware.com/help#Docum...) - however this was changed so that it context aware e.g. if it's on a page with a groupid parameter in the url it uses that groups journal (that's how the social group's module is aware of which group to load in the journal) - I don't know if this is any use for you but I'm not aware of any setting to "fix" it to a particular group - you may want to add that as an enhancement request to support.dnnsoftware.com though as group journal entries are typically not supposed to be shared outside the group I'm not sure it's an ideal approach

Thanks, Cathal... Yeah, I understand it's getting the ID from the url... But, I already have a "members only" page for these groups controlled with page permissions. I'd just like to add the module to that protected page. If the only way to do that is to use a URL parameter, then I have to make sure people include that parameter every time they link to the page, which I think is impractical. I would guess DNN has far more users with fixed groups like ours than are looking to make dynamic groups through a social network style site... So, I think that would be a great improvement.

I'll submit a request soon.

Definitely a good idea - ideally a setting in modulesettings that effectively lets us say - ignore the url parameters and instead use this explicit value.

We have had a couple of clients ask about things like putting a feed on their landing page.

The only way we could get it to work out currently was to trick up a hidden page on a special skin that loaded inside an iframe - which was really a whole lot of messing around for something that should ideally be as simple as.

ModuleSettings -> set groupid

The other one that we have been looking at is some sort of global feed that could show all activities from a group of feeds - bit like the all forums option on here.

Thanks, Wes...

I submitted it to support.dotnetnuke.com...

We'll see if it gets any traction.

Hope all's well,

Mike
