Hi Guys,

We have just finished developing some applications inside DNN. Due to the size of the application we have had to create multiple class files in the app_code folder, we have web references, custom skins. We also have alot of things in the DNN DB, like 40 odd pages all filled with our custom modules etc.

What we want to do is create multiple DNN install template similar to the default template / blank template option in the install wizard. What is the best way to go about this? all the info i could find online was about module template or page templates etc.

We know we can chuck our compiled modules into the install folder and have them auto install but what we want to do is create multiple configurations of our modules / layouts etc and save them for simple deployment.

to create a website template, use Host > Website Management.
Be aware, that module definitions being used need to be installed before.

Hi Sebastian,

Thanks for the quick reply. I just exported one of our portals and we seemed to end up with a template file similar to the .template files in the portals/_default directory which I assume would auto get picked up by the install wizard?

Is there any documentation on the exporting site templates that I could read through or am I better off just getting my hands dirty and see what it can do.

Also, whats in the resource file? its all binary and data, when we exported just or small application that file was like 40mb compared with the 3mb default website template resource file.

please see http://www.dnnsoftware.com/wiki/page/... for information on what a portal template contains (if you check the "include content" it includes content as well)
