I was pulling my hair for days and finally gave up and came here for any insights...

Server: godaddy.com windows web hosting, running DotNetNuke 7.0.6 (release 1)

Admin > Site Settings > User Account Settings > User Registration: Verified

Host > Host Settings > Advanced Settings > SMTP Server Settings > SMTP Server and port: relay-hosting.secureserver.net, anonymous, SSL not checked

Host > Host Settings > Basic Settings > Host Details > Host Email: something@something.com

I think SMTP server is set up properly, since Feedback module is able to send an email within 10 seconds. The problem is User Registration. It doesn't send an email. It worked before, twice, but, I know all newbies say this, it suddenly stopped working!!

Most frustration is that I really don't know where to troubleshoot. Admin > Event Viewer shows "New User" entry with green, but nothing about email - whether it was successful or not. Where should I start?

have you tried the "test smtp" function in host settings? If that works, the most common issue is misconfiguration elsewhere. I would check the site administrator email as that's where registration mails will come from - if it's not valid mails will fail to send. Similarly sometimes smtp servers are setup to only allow emails within a domain e.g. if I have mysite.com then a mail to test@mysite.com might work whereas newuser@differeentsite.com might not. If you have access to web.config you can configure web.config for a local pickup directory (http://dirq.net/2011/09/testing-email...) - this will allow you to see if email's are being generated but not making it to the user i.e. the issue is with the smtp server and not any configuration in DNN.

Thank you, Cathal. Your advise helped figure out the issue with emails not being sent when new user registers. My issue was that site admin email address was a public email instead of site domain email.

Thank you, Cathal. Looks like my website admin email was setup using public domain email instead of site domain.
