Hi all,

I'm interested in developing (or buying if the cost is reasonable) a secure members area module so registered users can access documents and images.

The DNN site will be set up so that the admin will have to approve all new users. Once approved, they will have access to a page with the module that will show the links to these documents.

Can this be done using the DNN API's? Will I be able to lock down a document to prevent an unregistered user from manually navigating to one of my secure documents? If so, what's a good starting point to accomplish this?

Thanks,
Mark

Mark,

In page settings just select the security role, or roles for the page in question. This way only certain roles can access the page.

Furthermore, if you are using a module like DMX you can create a directory structure and setup granular security roles for the folder structure. This way only certain roles can access certain folders.

Did you consider the free repository module?

I don't like the interface on all the modules I've seen. They are not user friendly. They appear to be designed more for an admin.

For example, I don't like the tree view. This is confusing to non-technical users and I don't have enough documents to categorize them. I just want a module that displays all documents in a nice, clean view for the visitors role. Maybe show a title, a link and date last modified. Each document will have a separator line underneath with some spacing.

I'm willing to write the module if there's a current DNN API to support the role check on a folder.

Mark,
Out of the box options are:
- Documents module
- Announcements module (with a tweaked template)
- Form & List module
