Hello,

We do something perhaps slightly strange with user accounts - so I thought I'd ask about this here to see if it's something I should handle on my own, or if this is something I should ask be fixed in the DNN core.

Currently, if an inactive user requests a password reset, it looks like DNN will send them a reset link. But, that link won't work for getting them into the site because their account is inactive. I feel like, instead, DNN should send them a message that basically says "You have an account in our system, but it is not currently active. Please contact us for further information" or something.

But, before I submit it as an issue... am I missing something here?

Thanks,

Mike

Mike,
IMHO the current behavior is a big improvement over the previous one, where those users got a link to reestablish their account.

Hi Sebastian,

Thanks - maybe I'm misunderstanding, though... If our users are not marked as "Approved" they get the same link that everybody else gets, it just doesn't work when they try to change their password. Is that expected behavior?

I wouldn't expect this behavior and most of our site owners wouldn't prefer it over not sending a reset link...
I suggest submitting your suggestion to JIRA (support.dnnsoftware.com)

Oh - I definitely agree. I don't want them to get an email but they do. I checked the code and DNN doesn't send if they're deleted, but it does send it if they're not approved. I guess I'll submit it to the tracker.

Thanks,

Mike
