Hi All,

I want to implement the Dotnetnuke with 3 separate physical tiers as per client request, which as follows.

1) presentation layer on a server in the DMZ

2) application (Business Logic) on separate Server in DMZ

3) Databases on other separate servers protected from the DMZ thru a specific firewall tunnel...

Is this possible to achieve with DNN. I am using DNN 6.2.7.

Thanks & best regards,

Ravindra Jumrani

No - that is not possible with DotNetNuke and I doubt you'll find a CMS that took that architecture approach.

separation onto 3 physical tiers is kind of an old concept from the days of "thick" clients such as windows applications/winforms i.e. the first tier would be the app which would remotely invoke some methods (typically. via COM/DCOM on a different tier), which in turn called the database. By their very nature, web applications tend to merge the first 2 tiers i.e. the presentation and logic are often contained within the same html/ascx/aspx page (albeit that in well designed applications such as DNN, the majority of business logic is in a separate library and not inline in the presentation layer). In the web world the most obvious way to fully separate into different physical tiers is to use webservices e.g. create a webservice that contains your business logic (and host in one webserver), and then have module(s) in DNN consume that webservice (note: DNN already works like this in many cases, though again the web services and the physical pages "live" in the same DNN instance, rather than being separated, as really there is a lot of work in physically separating there [plus running 2 websites, rather than 1] but little value, when it comes to a web application)
