Hello,

We are moving forward with plans to do some vulnerability testing of our application. In the context of that, we were provided the following list of known DotNetNuke vulnerabilities. Can you tell us if the version of DotNetNuke we are using (7.1.2) includes resolution of each of the vulnerabilities identified below? If not, is there a patch or additional version available that would resolve them?

This is a critical issue for us from the security view. It would be helpful if you could provide us the details on these ASAP.

Thanks,

ITneer

AFAIK all known vulnerabilities are fixed in DNN 7.1.2, for details check out the security bulletins on this site (http://www.dnnsoftware.com/Default.as..., unfortunately displays an error to me)

Thanks cathal,

I checked the version and found two issues which were:

1.     Potential persistent cross-site scripting issue: The DNN Framework contains code to support sanitizing user input. A failure to detect certain input as malicious could allow a hacker to use a cross-site scripting attack to execute html/javascript. (severity :Low)

2.     Potential reflective xss issue: The DNN Framework contains code to support searching across a lucent based search.  Part of this code fails to sanitize against input and could allow a hacker to use a cross-site scripting attack to execute malicious html/javascript. (severity :Low)

both issues are telling to upgrade to version 7.2.2 as it is stable for all the issues. As i have recently upgraded my application from 5.2.1 to 7.1.2 with a lot of trouble, so is there any other way to eradicate these issues without upgrading it?

Also i need to know something related to cross-site scripting by example , that how it can allow a hacker to attack my application?

Thanks,

ITneer

you may download and compare source code of both library versions, but IMHO the severity of the issues does not justify the effort. You may wait for 7.3.0 or 7.3.1 to perform an upgrade, when available.
