I've read some posts that were 4-6 years old that said we're required to buy a Data Springs module to force our members to use an email address for the username.  Is this still the case?

Thanks,
Dave

Dave,

no, this is provided by the core now.Under Admin :: Site Settings :: User account settings you can check "Use Email Address as Username" - but I would not do this on an existing portal without some tests, because for me it is pretty unpredictable what happens to existing users then. Actually I never tried this, but it could be that you have to change the usernames in the table "Users" and "aspnet_users" to their corresponding email addresses as well. So better try this in a testing environment, create some users, then change this setting and look what happens if you want to login.

Best wishes

if you turn on this setting for your websites, existing user accounts will not be affected, but additional e-mail address field might get hidden in UI

Hi,

Was this feature added to version 6 and 7? On a 06.02.06 install I'm looking for the setting under:

"Admin > Site Settings > User account settings"

and I'm unable to find: "Use Email Address as Username" or anything similar.

William,

afaik it was introduced with DNN 6. I can find it under Admin :: Site Settings :: User Account Settings in my DNN 6.2.5 installation. It's labelled "Use Email Address as Username". It is the 6th setting from top.

Best wishes
Michael
