Hello all,

Been using a DNN setup on a local server for sometime. Now 'suddenly' I get a 404 error. When I enter the URL of a Child portal called 'Demo'.

So

www.mywebsite.com/dnn gets me to my main portal and

www.mywebsite.com/dnn/demo does give the 404 error and

www.mywebsite.com/dnn/demo/home works again. Normally the .../dnn/demo should also get me there.

Now I created a second child portal called 'testing' and here I have the same issue. .../dnn/testing does throw the error 404 and .../dnn/testing/home works fine.

My assumption is that there is something wrong (gone wrong) with the default settings for a portal. I cannot find any strange changes comparing the DNN directories with a backup of one week old. Likely the wrong settings are somewhere stored in the database.

Do you have a backup that you can do a comparison with?

My first guess would be to check the portal alias table and see if there any problems. Do you get any URL related messages in the response headers? (you can check these in most browser debug tools)

Hello Bruce,

I checked the PortalAlias table and it has the following entries:

PortalAliasID PortalID HTTPAlias CreatedByUserID CreatedOnDate LastModifiedByUserID LastModifiedOnDate BrowserType Skin CultureCode IsPrimary
1 0 www.mydomain.nl/dnn -1 20-11-2012 09:27:57 -1 05-12-2013 14:00:34 Normal NULL NULL 1
4 1 www.mydomain.nl/dnn/demo 1 22-05-2013 16:00:44 -1 05-12-2013 14:00:34 Normal NULL NULL 1
6 1 www.mydomain.nl/dnn/demo/nl-nl 1 15-05-2014 12:10:13 1 15-05-2014 12:10:13 Normal NULL nl-NL 1
7 2 www.mydomain.nl/dnn/testing 1 15-05-2014 12:15:21 1 15-05-2014 12:17:03 Normal NULL NULL 1

Please note the two first entries have not changed this calender year and the last two have been added yesterday to see if they have the same problem.

Any other suggestions?
