Hi I was trying to set up a module devlopment environment on a windows 7  virtual PC using the dnndev.me method.  I must say in advance that we have successfully done this before  on a server.

However , know matter what we tried we could not get IIS on this PC to resolve the localhost to dnndev.me and load the install file.

We followed very step from the wiki, compared IIS settings between our working server version and the PC , we even added 127.0.0.1 dnndev.me to the host file,  but it always redirected us back to the default website in C:\\ inetpub.
Very vexing indeed and it managed to beat 3 of us,  I would be interested if anyone else has encountered this problem and found a solution.

What happens if you ping dnndev.me. My bet is you get a reply from 127.0.0.1 which shows that is it working.

To use it you need to add a binding to the site in IIS Manager. That is where you specify the host header name.

Actually no,  the ping request cannot find host dnndev.me.
We already  had put dnndev.me in to the bindings in IIS, as I sy we followed the steps exactly as in the wiki and then some.

host headers are used to allow you to create a separate IIS site to deploy a DNN site and develop against it - they're not mandatory, but they do simplify things. However if your machine cannot do a DNS resolution to dnndev.me it can't resolve to 127.0.0.1 and therefore cant determine what website to load. You can either use localhost in your binding, or modify your host file to add a local dnndev.me (http://www.rackspace.com/knowledge_ce...) -however that is local to the machine itself.

Ok so this is nothing to do with DNN or IIS then because you are not getting that far.

In your hosts file do you have the #PRE? My line (which pings fine) looks like this.
127.0.0.1 dnndev.me #PRE

I have no idea WHY I put #PRE in. For me it's just a piece of magic that I have never researched seriously but I have a belief that it's needed.
