Richard is correct, this is an issue with database Access in SQL Server - if you are able to Login and use other pages, it is more likely, that the module still uses the second (uncommented) connection string inside your web.config file, please make sure, both are identical.

Hi Sebastian,
you are not going to believe this. DASP (my ISP) used to prefix all databases with SQL...in the new Everleap environment the SQL is dropped. So I looked and looked and looked at the two database names and they looked the same to me....because I was so used to seeing SQL in front of a database for DASP! LOL! But...of course....the database name was not correct with the SQL in front of it.

So yes. I am embrassed and I apologise. Sorry.

If you asked me to be EUR50 that the two database names were the same I would have taken that bet. It was only when I wanted to change it to have a version number in it that I noticed the SQL at the front....sigh!

I spent about 4 hours yesterday/today working on getting the forums to upgrade properly. Some will be happy to know that the old forums work fine on DNN 7.3.1. I even got them to upgrade to the latest forum software on 7.3.1 but there are a lot of problems with them once the upgrade is done. .gifs are missing...the my settings buttons etc  are not there. I tried to find all the bits and pieces missing....but then there were css problems as well. It was all too much and too time consuming.

This is the 3rd serious try I have had to upgrade the old forums to the latest releases.

I noticed that development on the forums has not moved forward in some years now. I can't move the forums I have to new forum software because of the permanent links. But for new sites? I am seriously thinking I have to use different forum software. That would be a shame since I want the forums to be integrated with DNN in future sites.

Best Regards Peter

Peter,
I am glad you were able to fix the SQL connection issue. Sometimes you don't see the wood for trees - i.e. miss errors are too obvious to notice.
regarding upgrade of forums module: I remember some changes from .gif to .png about 5 years ago, but in general, development of the module has been sunsetted (besides DNN Corp doing some private fixes for use on this site). I strongly suggest considering a move to Active Forums, YAF.net or another forums solution.

Cheers from Germany,
Sebastian Leupold
