Installed last released DNN, and sending emails for any activity/module/core function does not work. Even the test email says it sent but I get nothing. I know my SMTP settings are correct. Is this a known bug or/and is there a fix? Any help appreciated. Thank you.

I have ran into an issue with SMTP as well with 7.3 upgrade.
A few things got fixed for me but I see new features being added... one for SMTP.

In Site Settings and Host Settings you can now set SMTP which is excellent, I waited and requested this feature for years...

Seems like SMTP could be bugged since I tried to do a new registration and it didn't send verification email to Hotmail account.
However my test accounts are on the same local server and did send ok as test emails to local accounts, I could not send to Hotmail however for some reason.  I could send an email to Hotmail from my Outlook however but not from DNN for a password reset to verify the account.

Another nice feature they need to add is a "Resend Verification Email" link for after you log in if you did not get one easily request one from that message... silly to me it is not there and they force a user to spend time logging out and doing a password reset function.  I will try to request that feature to be added soon I hope...

Can you share what settings you have?  Have you just set the SMTP server at the host level.  Are you using SSL, anonymous?

If you are using Gmail or Outlook.com there's a very good chance you have been blocked
Both email providers have updated and tightened security around bogus log in attempts to protect against Spam bots, DDOS, etc, etc

You should log into either account and check if you see an email titled "Please log into account"

If you are blocked you'll likely see a message like this in the log.resources or Event Log on the site:

"The server response was: 5.3.4 Requested action not taken; We noticed some unusual activity in your account. To help protect you, we've temporarily blocked your account."

This is what I get when my Outlook.com account is UNBLOCKED:

I am using the basic SMTP setting as well just like in the screen shot. I am also using a professional hosting/email service. However since the upgrade to 7.3 that was released yesterday I am now actually getting the test email. I am going to have a member register and see if the activation email is sent. Will let you know if 7.3 fixed it, intentionally or not.
