I think that the Content Injection module is a really good place for that. The problem with your method (which will work, of course) is: What happens if the module gets deleted or outdated, or when the page holds some more modules and you want to change the script after some years and have forgotten where it is. You would have to go into one module setting after the other until you find it. Or: All of a sudden the page does not work anymore because of some conflict with your JS, and you don't remember that you have placed a thing like this. It would take some time to find the reason...

Of course you _can_ do it this way, but the module header/footer is definitely not a good place for that - or, to be clear: not the place meant for that.

Using the Content Injection module, you have everything in one place - and it is much easier to maintain for these scenarios.

I don't recall if the content injection module was available when I had to do this but if so, I wasn't aware of it. But I'll keep it in mind if I need it in the future.
