I'm having an issue where after logging into the DNN site, I walk away, and when I come back I am logged out and can not log back in for about an half hour or more. I check the events log and this warning is the only one that happens around that time frame:

A process serving application pool 'xxxxxxx' exceeded time limits during shut down. The process id was 'xxxx'.

The pool is our DNN site. I did find the reason which is that the cause of the issue is that one of the recycling limits for our web app is reached, causing IIS to try to terminate it. The application fails to shut down in time, causing that (temporary) error. However, this offers no solution for how to fix the DNN site.

Does anyone have a DNN fix to make it stop doing this. Please forward this around if you could. it's driving me crazy.

fiirst you may alter app pool recycle to be performed only once per night at a specific time.
next, you should investigate, why shutdown time exceed time limit, maybe the database grew too far or a thread is hanging.

Alright Sebastian, thanks. Just set up the pools to run at 1am staggered every 5 minutes, good idea.

I have no clue where to start with investigating. Would you be able to provide some helpful links that can guide me? Google isnt pulling up anything even after I had used the same terms you are using. So I am a little lost at sea on this.

Check the DNN eventlog and IIS application log. how long does it take after a manual app recycle in control panel for the site to be available again?

Thank you Sebastian. I'm looking at a log of "Get" and "Posts". Is there anything specific I should take a look at?
