I don't have access to Chris' brain so I can only guess.

I think it is NOT usual to put websites in C:\inetpub\wwwroot. That is purely the default choice. Most serious web servers put the content on a dedicated drive.

Personally, in my development environment, I keep sites out of the C drive. I want the C drive to be throw away. Chris probably takes a similar view.

Thank you, Richard, but note that for this, Chris recommends putting DNN in the C drive.

Since you are guessing, my guess based on your guess is that there is no significant advantage to doing what Chris suggests. Of course, that is only a guess.

Typically when I ask questions in these forums the replies I get a few days later hit the mark better than the first few replies, so I should just wait.

I doubt he actually 'recommends' putting it on the C drive.

When you write that kind of guidance it's a start point. He may say C drive purely because everyone (usually!) has one.

Else every instruction begins with a paragraph about if you have a D drive do this, else do that... The reader cannot see the wood for the trees.

Best wishes,

I recall reading an article many years ago recommending not using inetpub\wwwroot for security reasons. Hackers knew MS sites lived in that folder and it made it easier for them to find them. Not sure if that's why he doesn't put his DNN sites there but it's my preference too because most hosting companies do the same. Rarely do I see a website in the inetpub\wwwroot these days.
