Hi All,

I have a portal running on DNN 5.4.4 (i know its dinosaur-ish but pls bear with me).

It has a child portal which functions normally when accessed via the normal URL - www.myportal.com/childportal .
I created a portal alias "portal.customer.com", when i access the child portal thru this URL, it throws following error:

A critical error has occurred.
StartIndex cannot be less than zero. Parameter name: startIndex

The event viewer shows following details:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

UserAgent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 8.0; Windows NT 5.1; Trident/4.0; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; .NET CLR 3.0.4506.2152; .NET CLR 3.5.30729)
DefaultDataProvider: DotNetNuke.Data.SqlDataProvider, DotNetNuke.SqlDataProvider
ExceptionGUID: 1b0d9cde-dd2d-453e-aacb-89ac295236c8
InnerException: StartIndex cannot be less than zero. Parameter name: startIndex
FileName:
FileLineNumber: 0
FileColumnNumber: 0
Method: System.String.InternalSubStringWithChecks
StackTrace:
Message: DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.PageLoadException: StartIndex cannot be less than zero. Parameter name: startIndex ---> System.ArgumentOutOfRangeException: StartIndex cannot be less than zero. Parameter name: startIndex at System.String.InternalSubStringWithChecks(Int32 startIndex, Int32 length, Boolean fAlwaysCopy) at DotNetNuke.Modules.Admin.Users.User.Page_Load(Object sender, EventArgs e) at System.Web.UI.Control. Please suggest a solution!

Thanks in advance...

please make sure to use only the new alias (the other should be removed from portalalias table.
Make sure you clear local browser cache.

Hi Sebastian

Thanks! but the problem still exists. Following things were done:

- original portal alias was removed from PortalAlias table. Now when someone types the old URL he is redirected to the main website (portal 0).

- Application was re-started and local browser cache was cleared, but same error is thrown. The vent view details are as follows:

InnerException: StartIndex cannot be less than zero. Parameter name: startIndex
FileName:
FileLineNumber: 0
FileColumnNumber: 0
Method: System.String.InternalSubStringWithChecks
StackTrace:
Message: DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.PageLoadException: StartIndex cannot be less than zero. Parameter name: startIndex ---> System.ArgumentOutOfRangeException: StartIndex cannot be less than zero. Parameter name: startIndex at System.String.InternalSubStringWithChecks(Int32 startIndex, Int32 length, Boolean fAlwaysCopy) at DotNetNuke.Modules.Admin.Users.User.Page_Load(Object sender, EventArgs e) at System.Web.UI.Control. (EventArgs e) at System.Web.UI.Control.LoadRecursive() at System.Web.UI.Control.LoadRecursive() at System.Web.UI.Control.LoadRecursive() at System.Web.UI.Control.LoadRecursive() at System.Web.UI.Control.LoadRecursive() at System.Web.UI.Control.LoadRecursive() at System.Web.UI.Control.LoadRecursive() at System.Web.UI.Control.LoadRecursive() at System.Web.UI.Control.LoadRecursive() at System.Web.UI.Control.LoadRecursive() at System.Web.UI.Control.LoadRecursive() at System.Web.UI.Control.LoadRecursive() at System.Web.UI.Page.ProcessRequestMain(Boolean includeStagesBeforeAsyncPoint, Boolean includeStagesAfterAsyncPoint) --- End of inner exception stack trace ---
