Hi, maybe it's just a newbie question or some old question coming back some times but here it is:

Skining is perfect for "all around the module" but i would like to provide two "skins" for my announcements module:

  1. the first display the title inline with the content just like this: Mytitle, here start the announcement.
  2. the second one will display like usualy using a td or a br tag for two lines rendering.

The question is:

  1. Is there a way to provide several layouts for the same kind of module or the only layout available is the announcements.ascx file?
  2. Is it possible to configure the portal to search for module ascx files into a local folder of the portal and if no file has been founded, then use the default one. (located app_root\desktopModules folder)

Modifying the ascx file will impact all the portals, right?

thanks for reply.

Hi - Can't you achieve taht affect with the containers?

You know - once I tried to setup my own nice login file and it went horribly wrong because although it's in the dropdown box, it actually uses the admin/security/login.ascx (or something like that) file.. and I couldn't get it to work - because it affected every portal in that db and I just had to stop and think about something else since it was obvious not being a coder would be my demise in trying to make these little changes. (these are regarded as core changes and very obvious why once you've done something)

But I had this idea that you could duplicate the ascx file and make some changes to it, then go into the Host/Modules/Announcements/ module definitions and add it to the control and it would work.   I thought it might be ok because it wasn't coming from the admin/security folder, but the more generic DesktopModules folder, but I haven't tried it.

Maybe if one of the developers could shed some light on if this is possible I'd also appreciate it..

Wasnt' such a good answer was it - but I really wish at times I could have 2 or 3 layouts of the same module to help me with skinning it.
