I am trying to set the Favicon.ico and a new site running under v7.3 (Have done it previously under v7.2).  I have tried both uploading the file and dragging the file to the "Basic Settings > Appearance > Favicon" .  The icon appears in the drag area, but when I hit "Update" it doesn't show in the tab of the browser (Shows the "D" icon) and vanishes from the drag area. The logo for the site is fine.  The icon is an .ico file 32 x 32.

Ok - the problem wasn't DNN per se - it was Chrome being very aggressive about caching the favicon.  The icon was coming from cache, even though I had cleared the Chrome cache to "the beginning of time".  

To fix it, I had to navigate to "http>//<my site>/favicon.ico" and hit CTRL-F5. That isn't really practical for end users though.

Two things that might help from a future version of DNN:

1. I was confused by the fact the the favicon is not shown after it has been changed in "Basic Settings > Appearance", so I assumed it hadn't "taken".

2. Is there, could there, should there be a version number on the favicon link? I can't actually see the link in the source file - maybe I am missing something?

Yes, favicon is something you want to change before making the site live. Browsers do cache that hard.
