We are using DNN 7.3.4 and we are having problems with our emailing system.

Under Host - SMTP Settings we are using Basic Authentication with SSL enabled with a 3rd party smtp provider that is smtp.office365.com. When I test this mailbox, it works. The email is being sent to the mailbox with no problems. We also have Catalook which is using these credentials and the emails are relaying successfully to the user upon a purchase etc.

User Admin/SMTP Settings, we use the "Host" mode. The test is successful for this as well. The Host email address is websites@ and the same is for the Admin (profile) and for the SMTP username.

However, when a new user is registered he will not receive an email, the host will not receive an email that a new user is registered either. When trying to reset the password for a user, the user is not receiving an email. When we switch to a verified registration, the verification email is not being sent at all. All other third party applications would still work.

Here is what we have from the logfile:

2015-01-02 13:54:34,457 [id19903][Thread:32][ERROR] DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.Exceptions - System.Net.Mail.SmtpException: Mailbox unavailable. The server response was: 5.7.60 SMTP; Client does not have permissions to send as this sender

   at System.Net.Mail.DataStopCommand.Send(SmtpConnection conn)

   at System.Net.ClosableStream.Close()

   at System.Net.Mail.MailWriter.Close()

   at System.Net.Mail.SmtpClient.Send(MailMessage message)

Any ideas?

Be sure that the Email Address on the Administrator user (the user selected in the site settings) is from an email address that is allowed from that SMTP server. You likely have multiple Administrator accounts, check them all to be sure what email addresses they have on file.

Hi Chris. Yes, we do have nine admin accounts. The main administrator under Admin/Security Settings tab is "admin" (I have changed this after your post because previously that "main" admin had a different email address). This "admin" under his profile has websites@ email address. The same username is used now for the smtp.office365.com account. Do you think it conflicts with another admin's account since two admins are using this email address? Any other recommendations?
The error now we are getting is below. Please note that we are using Basic Authentication and we have enabled SMTP SSL.

2015-01-03 17:53:28,567 [id19903][Thread:34][ERROR] DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.Exceptions - System.Net.Mail.SmtpException: The SMTP server requires a secure connection or the client was not authenticated. Chris you were right. Some other problems related to the smtp.office365.com prevented your suggestion to work. Now it works as expected. Thanks.
