On 7.3, I could direct users to a page on the site without .aspx

Now, I get an error:

Not Found

The requested document was not found on this server.

So I contacted PowerDNN to see if this can be fixed.  This was the reply.

I looked in the web.config and found that DNN's built in Advanced URL Management was turned off. I turned that on for you and now you have extensionless URLs, however, if a page has a space in it's name, there will be a hyphen in place of the space

Adding hyphens is not acceptable because it essentially breaks all other links to the site.  I reversed this change.

e.g. if you had a About Us, Board Members page...  you used to be able to get use:

http://mysite.com/AboutUs/BoardMembers.aspx

or

http://mysite.com/AboutUs/BoardMembers

.....

Now with the web.config changes, I have to use:

http://mysite.com/About-Us/Board-Members

This breaks all old links to the site.

you may configure advanced URL management and create redirect rules using http://dnnurlmanagement.codeplex.com/

Thanks Sebastian --

I try to avoid solutions that are not part of the core due to long term support concerns.

Nothing changed on my site except the upgrade to 7.4.  Again, the sites running on 7.3 on the same hosting account work find with extensionless URLs.

This is a major breaking change for all sites, previous e-mails, etc that link to my site...

One more comment – I decided to re-enable Advanced URL management.

I personally do not prefer the dashes... but it does in fact work EXCEPT for expired pages (e.g. when logged in as host).

I have lots of expired pages that I update and republish at certain times of year, etc.

So, for the expired pages (when logged in as host), I get

"Not Found

The requested document was not found on this server."

when advanced URL management is enabled.

The good news is, on an unexpired page:

http://mysite.com/AboutUs/BoardMember...
http://mysite.com/About-Us/Board-Memb...
http://mysite.com/AboutUs/BoardMembers
http://mysite.com/About-Us/Board-Members

These all work and get redirected to http://mysite.com/About-Us/Board-Members

However,
http://mysite.com/About-Us/BoardMembers
and
http://mysite.com/AboutUs/Board-Members
gets "Not Found" error.

So, the issue is not as severe as I thought. Some changes suggested I posted on Issue Tracker:
1. Allow the user to determine if they want "dashes" by default or "omission of spaces" by default, but keep the URLs working with both options. I'd prefer everything to get redirected to http://mysite.com/AboutUs/BoardMembers in the example above. It looks cleaner in my opinion.
2. Allow host/page editor to view Expired pages with Advanced URL management enabled.
