Hi,

We are using DNN Community Edition 5.6.6 to host our site.  Recently we had an issue that took us by surprise.  We saw that some of the deleted users became active again without any input by the Site administator.  Is it possible for deleted users to become active again or is there a glitch?

That would depend on how you made them deleted. A properly deleted user cannot log in or 'undelete' themselves.

I would also recommend that you move forward with your DNN version - as any security issues or problems found in the years since your site was built may be being exploited. The current version is 7.4 and upgrading from 5.6 should be relatively straightforward if the code hasn't been modified.

If the user was only deleted for the single Portal, he would be able to re-register using same username, email address and Password.
In some old Versions, just un-authorizing users left them with the Option to re-authenticate and re-gain access to the site.
Like Bruce said, one of the best options would be upgrading your site to a more recent version of DNN (e.g. 7.3.4 atm or 7.4.1, when available)

there was also an issue in the 5.x timeframe where previously soft deleted users could "reactivate" their profiles by registering with the same username/password combination as before - I had thought it was fixed by 5.6.6 but perhaps not, and that's what you're seeing. That said, I agree with the others advice about upgrading to something more recent.
