Don't know if this is the correct forum but we are in the last few months of creating a modern responsive  transactional website to replace our current. We have followed the .gov.uk principle of removing any pages or content that is not needed , probably as much as 60+% less pages in the new site. This also includes a lot of renaming, reordering so there will be a lot of broken links as a result when the new site goes live.

I am looking at options how best to handle this, including some sort of intelligent way of checking, searching for and  offering alternative pages that may offer a match perhaps around the built in search.
Any advice as to how best to approach it would be great.

If you are using DNN / wih Advanced URL, you may add redirects to existing pages by using Evoq or http://dnnurlmanagement.codeplex.com/

Is there any detailed information on using this module.
The approach I am thinking of at the moment is to get the absolute uri of the page in the 404 page and run a search in the tabs table for a match and then list the results in a repeater table. Not perfect but it should at least offer some  assistance to a user.

the module is just the missing UI for features in DNN core.
I'd have a look into evoq manuals, which do expose these settings as well.

The  Advanced URL already built in to DNN does a good job of guesstimating similar urls.  But because our new site  structure has a a total rewrite with many sections and pages  moved or reordered we needed to have some way to handle this easily.
It was easy to build a little module that picks up the absolute uri in the 404 page , split out the paths, replace underscores, dashes,  hyphens etc with spaces just leaving the final page name.
We then use a full text search using freetexttable to search on multiple words in Tabname and rank the results.

I guess there may be a smarter, better way but this is quick and seemingly efficient tool.
