I am using Premium Reseller as my hosting provider. As a reseller I have a master hosting space, in which I have my site domain and website. I've created a virtual directory for my DNN installation, which I just upgraded to Evoq Content 8. I have created a child site in this environment with no issues, and used it to create a template.

I have a separate hosting site in which I've created a domain and website for a client. I originally tried creating a parent site to the "Instant Alias" location with no luck. In reading the manual I discovered that I have to set up the domain in DNS first. So,  I completed the domain transfer, pointed the domain record to my DNS servers and created the "www" record in my DNS. I again tried to create the parent domain, with still no luck.

Any ideas on where I'm going wrong will be greatly appreciated since my client's site is now down.

hello, I'm not sure what's going wrong - there is no difference in creating a child or parent portal, they both use the same code. The only difference is the url used for the HttpAlias field in the PortalAlias tables i.e. a child will be existingsite.com/childsite and a parent will be whatever domain you provide. As long as requests for that domain make it to the IIS site, then DNN will handle it as expected. If a parent site is not working, then you need to check that the domain resolves (open a cmd window and do a "ping yourdomain.com" to make sure that it resolves as the IP of your server), and ensure that the host header for the new domain is listed in IIS
