Since MVC 5 is in development I want to start experimenting with Dev versions 7.5 and/or 8.0.

But after I create an installation (with a package created with Build_Install_Package.bat), how can I later force an update of that installation (with a package created with Build_Update_Package.bat) knowing that the version number has not changed?

I can copy the files and I can call /install/install.aspx?mode=installresources but what with any db changes?

there is no upgrade path between nightly builds. Whilst it's not a supported path, typically you can pull the latest files down from github and create an update package and overwrite the files, but you will have to manually rerun the 7.5.0 sqldataprovider file (it should be re-entrant so can be ran multiple times)

Thanks Cathal. That is exactly what I wanted to know.

After applying the update package again, you can run /install/upgradewizard.aspx again, to install all the modules.

But does that rerun the sqldataprovider file again?

[EDIT]

I just tested it and the answer seems to be NO.

What is the easiest manual way to re-run the latest sqldataprovider file?

[EDIT]

Come to think of it: /install/upgradewizard.aspx is protected by host login (so pretty secure) and existing modules are re-installed. Shouldn't a re-run of the latest sqldataprovider file be appropriate when re-running the upgradewizard?

you can easily load and rerun a sqldataprovider file in Host > SQL
