Chris, thank you for the suggestion. I have the following folders in the Portals folder:

_default
0-System
1
1-System

Sebastian, I figured last night that I have more problems than just failing attempts to add new pages. In fact I don't have the "Host" menu. Before I ended up with the current installation which completed without warnings and error messages, I tried installing many times and every time something was wrong.

Even with the current installation I had an issue with the extensionless pages since I was installing DNN on a fresh virtual machine which was not patched. Now that I am on SP1 of Windows Server 2008R2 and I also installed manually the KB980386 hotfix I can login with the credentials of the host account set during the installation and like I said even though my login user name is "host" I don't have host level privileges :)

Any further ideas will be appreciated.

Now, I have just checked the server console and see that after SP1 installation there are 129 important updates. Let me install them and then re-deploy DNN and see if there is any difference.

Thanks to all.
Ascar

Sebastian and Chris,

Thank you very much for your help. I recreated my DNN instance from scratch and I now have Host menu and I can add a new page. I guess during the previous installation I did something wrong. What I observe is that during the previous installation when I was setting up the DB login for the database user I pointed that the the default database should be my DNN database. This time I kept things as in the videos and the default DB is Master - probably this made difference, though I am not sure. This time I was also installing on top of a fully patched OS.

I am sure this is not the end and I will have to ask questions many times again.
