Doug,

Pardon me for jumping in with a non-answer answer. A week is about 6.8 days to long to wait to get this fixed.

Unless there are exceptionally compelling reasons to host your site with Network Solutions, you should spend a few hours looking for a host that not only provides good tech support, but also supports DNN. And you have a choice of more than one or two. Take advantage of the free trials that many offer, and see the difference!

Now ... back to your regular programming.

Doug,

I'm also on NetworkSolutions for hosting. Before they "upgraded" me, I had lightning-fast performance on DNN, but not so since the upgrade.

I'm running DNN 7.4.0. I have my app pool set to recycle every 1 hour. Since setting the recycle to every hour, I haven't received any 503 errors.

Thanks Mike,

I just upgraded the site from 7.2.2 to 7.4.1 last night just to get it ready to move it off Network Solutions and over to Comstar which is a local hosting provider with whom I work with a great deal and have an excellent support staff that won't give up until the solution is found.   The migration won't be easy in that it appears that the database @ NS is on a SQL 2014 server and sadly you can't make a good connection to it with SQL Management studio < 2012.  So that will be a struggle since the backup of the database won't restore onto a SQL 2012 server install.

I am just so disappointed in Network Solutions but it does not surprise me.   They just have no incentive to figure out the issue.   They even sent me instructions on truncating the transaction log on the database because it was filling up everyday besides and stopping the site from running.  (why should I be doing that???)  I have the same platform and version running on my own personal site at GoDaddy and have never had any issues and it is roughly the same size.

I have not seen any 503 errors since upgraded to 7.4 as you have seen with your site but it is really too late.  8 tickets later and they still are not working on a solution my client (a law firm no less) is done with NS.

so.... in the process of trying to find out why the database was so large after the install and why the site kept going done, I found that immediately after the site was installed new from their open source installation package, there were periodic attempts by robots to register new users.  over the course of the first few days where the transaction log was filling up for no apparent reason there were 50 new user registration requests.  Over 80% were from France and China.

Could that kind of Robot activity hitting the web site cause the app pool to stop function and throwing the 503 errors?
