Hello,

Regarding DNN site localization, have the following questions: (for DNN Platform 7.4.1 and DNN Evoq 8 Content)

1) Is this the best documentation available for steps to perform to enable localization/install language packs and content translation. Is this applicable to both DNN Platform and DNN Evoq?

2) When there are multiple language-packs installed in DNN site. How is the language changed? Does the user get an option to view the site in the language he chooses (say from a drop-down) or DNN automatically decides which language to show based on user's culture? Can you point me to some references on site localization?

Came across this article, but in which file to to modify these settings and show the language switcher?

http://www.dnnsoftware.com/community-blog/cid/134633/the-language-skinobject-explained

3) Looks like there is no Simplified chinese language pack available in DNN. Where can we get this language pack? If we have to use a third-party module, will it be supported by current and/or future DNN versions? Will the steps to be performed be the same?

Please advice.

Thanks in advance.

 1. yes, that's the best resource. It's applicable to DNN and Evoq

2. the usual convention is to use the language skin object, most skins ship with it (it only displays if  more than 1 locale is enabled) - see https://github.com/dnnsoftware/Dnn.Pl... for an example usage.

3. http://sourceforge.net/projects/dnn-i... is the only one I know of, but it's very old (DNN 4.7). Language packs are simply resx files (and dnn manifest definitions) so they will work on all versions.

Thank you for the prompt response.

I have some follow-up questions.

1) We are using DDRMenu for showing side menu navigation. When it is English (default site language), the menu is showing up fine. But when we change the language (say french), the menu disappears. I see the same DDR menu settings as in English. The page is marked as Translated and Published. Should the entire section be marked as Translated and Published for it to show up?

In the main site navigation top menu, for non-english languages, each page link in the menu option is having PageName (culture code), is there a way to not show the culture codes in the menu links?

2) Are new pages (and modules within each page) set-up for each language or is it different version of the same page for each language?

3) Regarding URL's, domain.com/[culture code], seems to be format for page URL's. Even for english, it is showing as
domain.com/en-US/PageName/SubPageName. Can't we have just domain.com/PageName/SubPageName for English, which is the site default language.

For other languages, it is adding the [culture code] after everything,
domain.com/[culture code]/PageName-[culure code]\SubPageName-[culture code].

It is not looking pretty, can we change the way these URL's show-up? Including the Page and SubPages, not to append the culture codes?

#3 is a subject of the Portal aliases in Admin > Site Settings. there should be exat one general (no language) site alias marked as Primary (domainname.com) and one for each language (domainname.com/en-us and domainname.com/zn-zn or domainname.com/en and domainname.com/zn or whatever you like), marked as Primary AS WELL.

#2) DNN Core Content Localization uses different pages per language (which are weakly connected to each other).
We are working on better solutions for DNN neXt
