I'm running a site on version 7.02.02 and the page settings dialog is taking 9-10 seconds to load.  This seems very slow to me.  (Admin->Page Settings-> Right Click on a page and choose page settings.)

I've followed the best practices guides for performance.  It's on a dedicated box 2 8-core Xeon processors, 120GB ram, so I can't see the hardware as the issue.

There are other portals on this installation with just a few pages and this box is fast to pop up.  The portal that is slow does have a great deal of pages, but I would think once the tree view is loaded, this shouldn't affect it.

Any help would be much appreciated.  This is very frustrating.

It can be tough to track down performance issues. One good resource to assist is Mitchel Sellers DNN Performance Guide. Are you aware of it? Maybe try reading through it and see if you can track down whatever is making your application slow

have a look at the event log, if there are constantly issues logged, you need to fix it.
have a look at app pool settings and make sure, it is not recycled after 20 minutes of inactivity and recycles are logged in windows eventlog.
Check database size and size of largest tables. if Eventlog has more than a few thousand entries, clear it and check it frequently.

I've followed the guide from Mitch Sellers and tweaked the server with those settings. It did not make a difference. I have the app pool set to recycle at 2:00AM daily. 200 minute timeout.

I have some errors in the event log, but it doesn't seem like an extraordinary amount. Some page load exceptions and General Exceptions. The general exceptions are on the Activity Feed it says, in a different portal. Thread was being aborted. 828 total logged events since site went up last year.

DB is only 400mb.

are you able to trace down, whether the issue is on the server or on the client?
- Use Network tab in IE Developer tools to get the time until the page gets delivered. if this takes most time, the problem is the server, otherwise it might be the client side code
- if the issue is on the server, you need to identify, whether it is DNN code or the database. I prefer using SQL profiler to identify long running queries (any with more than 3 digits value is usually worth looking into.
