I would like to configure DNN so that when someone clicks the 'add module' button to add a module to the page, "common" is the selected module category by default.

Currently, it selects 'all' and you have to choose 'common' from the dropdown menu if you wish to see only common modules.

Can this be configured? If this is not a feature of DNN then perhaps this question belongs in one of the programming categories so that I can fiddle with a workaround.

AFAIK there is no configuration for it.

It looks like you're supposed to be able to set this in AddModule.ascx.cs (in \admin\ControlPanel). Don't think that file's used for anything anymore (changes made to that file have no effect).

It used to default to Common as the category (as the CS file specifies).

The list of preferred modules is hardcoded by DNN Corp.
