Hi,

I recently upgraded a slightly neglected site from 06.02.01. First I went to 06.02.08 as the Wiki seemed to suggest that was the best route then I upgraded again to 07.04.02.

In Host Settings, the original version number of 06.02.01 is still listed.

2 thoughts come to mind:

  1. I didn't actually upgrade
  2. I did upgrade but ti hasn't completed properly

Both upgrades gave no errors. The Admin UI is a bit different. When I'm logged in as the Admin user I now get a kind of overlay layer that the editing takes place in. Prior to the upgrade, the editing took place in the normal representation of the site. (I'm probably not describing that properly, but hopefully you know what I mean).

So, How can I tell what version I'm Really running and if (as I suspect) I'm not running 06.02.01 how do I get Host Settings to report the correct version?

Thanks.

did you unblock the downloaded upgrade package in file properties prior to unzipping the files contained and overwriting the existing files?#
Check version number of DotNetNuke.dll in /bin folder.
Compare with max. version number in Versions table in the database - if this is less tahn 7.4.2, the upgrade has not properly been executed.

Thanks for the reply.

I'm not sure what you mean by "unblock the downloaded upgrade package in file properties" so I probably didn't do that.

I downloaded the upgrade package, unzipped it, copied the unzipped folders over the previous installation, browsed to the site and followed the instructions.

I did all this on a copy of the site (filesystem, IIS and Database) so I can easily wipe this and start again if I've done something wrong.

dotnetnuke.dll has a version of 7.4.2.216 so it looks as if the upgrade is in place, but Host Settings still shows the original version number.

Actually I've just noticed something...

My live site is on www.domain.co.uk and I copied this to upgrade.domain.co.uk and applied the changes there.

When I browse upgrade.domain.co.uk I see the content, but the URLs are all still pointing to www.domain.co.uk so it looks as if the links within the site are remembering the main site's root FQDN and using that rather than the upgrade site. So when I'm looking at the Host Settings, it's for the un-upgraded site.

So perhaps I didn't change enough when copying the site.

I copied the filesystem, set up a new site in IIS and backed up and restored the database. I edited web.config in the new file system to point to the new database. I then checked in SQL Activity Monitor that I was getting connections to the new database.

So I think I'll re-copy the database and file system and try again... Is there anything I should be doing so that the copied site doesn't use the FQDN of the original one?

To unblock, right click the downloaded package in Windows Explorer and select "File Properties". check near the end of first tab about a note that the file is downloaded from Internet and potentially dangerous. There should be a button or checkbox, you max enable to "unblock" the file.
Afterwards you may unzip all files contained.

I updated the portalAlias table to my test URL and that has given me proper access to the upgraded site. It looks as if all went well.

I now need to gut up to speed with the changes in the latest version. Off to read the documentation and adjust some CSS that looks a bit strange.

Thanks.
