Would someone be kind enough to direct me to a white paper or other similar type resource that is current for 7.x and comprehensive?
I have been looking for the last few hours w/o much success and frankly rather surprised that such a common and essential task is seemingly so poorly documented.
thx!

simply, there are just a few steps:

- restore files from backup of your site and adjust permissions, to grant write permission for the ASP.NET account configured in IIS App Pool
- you need to setup the IIS website and bind to your domain name(s)/IP address.
- restore the database (unless you keep using the same SQL server) and adjust both connection strings in web.config accordingly.
- if you want to use a different the primary portal alias , you'll have to adjust PortalAlias table, so it recognizes the domain and doesn't redirect

Thanks Sebastian, would there be some IIS setting/configuration and the like that would need to match the source install?

authentication and most app pool settings should match, default.aspx needs to be configured as default document and the list of mime types should cover the documents, you are providing.
