Chris, I am glad you were able to restore your site, the issue might be caused by a 3rd party extension - e.g. Rad Editor is now replaced by CKEditor as default editor provider.

hello all, ran into a similar problem (except mine probably being a tad messier on account of me not knowing what the heck I'm doing!)

I'm on 7.04.00 and need to upgrade to 8, but after a few high profile botched attempts, I've decided to cry "uncle" and have somebody who knows what they're doing give it a go.

Could you recommend a service or person who can upgrade my DNN platform for us (via remote desktop as we dont have ftp)

thanks!
Frank

I made another attempt to upgrade today after deleting some code in the skin controls files.  "These errors can be fixed by removing the SolPart control in the Container."

My skin vendor sent me this link.

http://www.dnnsoftware.com/forums/for...

I did get further but I am still at a no-go status at this point in time.

The site looked fine before logging in.  I was able to log in with no issues.  I tried to edit a page and the edit button didn't work.  I found an old post that looked promising.  http://www.dnncreative.com/Forum/tabi...    I changed the "Control Bar" to "Ribbon Bar" and now I can edit pages but I can no longer get to my "Admin" and "Host" areas. They are grayed out on the   'Ribbon Bar'.  I also see two search buttons.  One works but finds no results.  The other doesn't work when clicked.

Any ideas?

Regards,

Chris

Change the site skin to one of the standard ones that come in the download. If the site works that shows it's it is a skin problem.

If your skin vendor won't sell/give you an upgrade then you'll probably need some professional help to convert the skin.

Richard,

Sounds like a good suggestion.  I rolled back my v8. update so now I'm back at v7..  Hopefully v8. doesn't fix security issues found with v7..  I lost where to look to see if DNN updates address security issues. :-(

Regards,

Chris
