In browsing the forums it seesm that most mentions of "membership" are for utilities to synchronize user accounts between Active Directory or another external DB & DNN's User menagement system. I'm not really asking about that.

I am curious if many (non-profit or otherwise) associations are using DNN to handle ALL their membership needs? I see there is a Subscribers user role and that one can charge a (membership) fee at a regular interval (e.g., yearly).

Is there a facility to then send out renewal notices 3 and 1 month beforehand for instance? Or, can one send out a welcome letter when someone joins? I guess that could be done with a query on new/renewed members since the last welcome letter went out.

With the groovey new user profiles one can now add new fields for each user, like membership number or volunteer\user interests.

Maybe this is super common to use DNN for this, but I've never come across any mentions of associations doing so. If not why not?! Thanks!
