I have followed install steps given on http://www.dnnsoftware.com/wiki/how-to-install-dotnetnuke  for windows 7 and IIS 7.5

I prefer a different procedure:

  1. create a new folder in c:\inetpub, e.g. c:\inetpub\dnn
  2. unblock downloaded install zip file
  3. extract all contained files hierarchically into c:\inetpub\dnn
  4. in IIS, create a new website pointing to this folder (for local test site, use "Default App Pool ASP.NET 4 integrated". Use "DNN" as name and host header
  5. in Windows file system, grant modify permission for folder "c:\inetpub\dnn" to the ASP.NET account specified in advanced settings of the app pool
  6. edit file "hosts" in folder c:\system32\drivers\etc and create an (uncommented) alias for "DNN" (or which host header you chose before)
  7. create a blank website and grant dbowner permission to the SQL server login you want to use.
  8. Map this login to a database user (in login properties), using database schema "dbo" .
  9. browse the site, the install wizard should come up. even if running SQL Express, select full version and specify instance name, database name and login credentials
