I know this request may go over like a lead balloon, but it's important. I would like to ask all extensions developers to compile their codes in release mode - not debug mode. Microsoft's DebugDiag tool identified 166 DNN module components on my server compiled in debug mode - not good. I would call upon DNN to make a check for this status as part of installation of modules, disallowing installation of debug mode compiled code, or at the very least, warning users of this issue.

The list of debug compiled components included well known and respected names which I will not call out at this time. I am hoping that as professional software developers you will take the time to carefully compile your release code for release mode. Thank you.

May I ask why you care about this? I know that, in theory, a release built application has optimizations that make it faster. I'm not sure that this will magically make your site faster. In my tiny test of one very small application the measured performance difference was quite small.

On top of that these two stackoverflow questions indicate that Debug v Release is a slippery beast that does not have a simple binary yes/no answer.

I completely agree with Richard. Even if I am not publishing debug compiled modules, they are sometimes very useful to identify issues. Sometimes I sent a debug compiled dll to a user to change it with the release version, just to identify a problem that I could not reproduce. The information about the exception that happens is much clearer then.

So I would not like a DNN feature that disallows debug compiled DLLs.

Happy DNNing!
