When upgrading 

Current Assembly Version: 08.00.01

Current Database Version: 07.04.01

 

I got the following error.

I think you should look in the file mentioned to get 'more information' also as mentioned.

Thanks -- I already reverted. I don't really know where those log files are accessible.  I checked the site log but nothing mentioned there.

Database upgrade log files are located in folder /providers/dataproviders/sqldataprovider

I get the same exact error on a fresh install 7.4 which I then upgraded to 8.01 this is what my log states:
