DNN 7.4.2

I have a multi-portal install.

SMTP is set correctly and I can send messages from the site to any of the addresses mentioned below using the Newsletter module.

The portals are set for verified registration.

A user registers, gets the verification email, follows the link, gets the welcome email and is able to login to the site.

The user then logs out, clicks the Reset Password link, enters his correct email address and clicks the button.  He does not receive the reset password email, and an error is logged in the event log:

Any ideas, and any ideas on how to troubleshoot this problem?

did you check the email templates in Admin > Languages (call the language editor for Host or site and check records in default file), the reset template might miss required placeholders.

I've never resolved this correctly.

The portal is set so that it can send email successfully.

If I am logged in as an administrator, I can send a password reset link using the button on the User Accounts page.

If a user clicks from the Login page, I get an error, and the only thing logged in the Event Log is "Password Sent Failure" with absolutely no helpful information. But, it looks like this happens before an attempt to send email, as I don't see anything the SMTP server's log.

I don't see anything helpful in the resx file for SendPassword or PasswordReset.

I don't see any problems in the email templates in the Global resources file.

Web.config is enablePasswordRetrieval="false" enablePasswordReset="true"

Where might I look for more information?
