I have spent some time now spelunking the forums and gemini trying to figure out to resolve the following issue on my own. Unfortunately, I am one of the unfortunate who jumped on the 4.3.2 bandwagon before I realized it was a (RC) version (Did the RC part of the title just magically appear?). That withstanding, I find myself figuratively crossing the Delaware and about half way through. Should I go back to 4.0.3 (which worked well for me) or configure and hack 4.3.2 into submission hoping that 4.3.3 will throw me a rope?

Enough metaphor. Heres a summary of my issues thus far:
  1. New registration loses profile details (other than email/pw) upon completion in "public" registration mode.
    1. The "logged in user" skin control that usually displays the logged in users name is empty b/c the First and Last name are empty in the profile
    2. Editing the user profile via the "User Account" module and filling in the details persists, but still does not display (a.)
    3. Details: I have custom login and user account pages.
  2. Registration email is not sent in "verified" registration mode
    1. Despite validation of host and admin emails, as well as portal and host email settings, no email is sent thus users can never be validated.
    2. Administration notification emails and Password Reminder emails ARE sent without issue
  3. Current site Module Backwords Compatibility
    1. Catalook.netStore consistently crashes and is incompatible due to: Method not found: 'Void DotNetNuke.Entities.Users.UserController.SynchronizeUsers(Int32)'.
    2. Luckily ActiveForums already had a patch out for 4.3.2
    3. I have been effected by breaking changes in my own custom modules as well, mostly dealing with the fact that the profiles have been refactored.
  4. Event Queue Access
    1. Received an error message after completion of install script: Access to the path 'C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\dnninstalllocation\Portals\_default\EventQueue\Applicati on_Start--07f25b3c-1f55-45dc-a628-5f8abe6b97f8.config' is denied.
    2. Also got this when installing a couple modules
    3. I believe i have resolved this by setting file access on the eventqueue folder
  5. Mystery of the expected features
    1. From the documents that i have seen, 4.3.2 supposedly allows some nice new things, only I cant see how they are actually in this version and working. Is my install so hosed up that I never got these changes? Host settings say i have "04.03.02"
    2. CAPTCHA code? How does one get one of these?
    3. Login redirect to something other than the default portal page? Where are the settings for this? How does one turn this on?
    4. In Verified registration mode, an email with a verification link is sent? I can't even see this in the installed resx file where this message is supposedly defined, let alone that i can't get this message.
Caveat 1:
It is very possible that something in my configuration/environment has caused some of these problems. I am not saying that these are all DNN bugs. It could be that issue 4 prevented the application of some after-install configuration or something.

Caveat 2:
I also realize that it is not the responsibility of the DNN team to worry about 3rd party modules (though backwards compatibility does seem an appropriate goal).

Caveat 3:
I realize this is a release candidate and that its issues seem to be sideline to the actual release generation.

Request 1: For the issues I have mentioned (esp. 1 & 2) does anyone have any insight into these issues? Suggestions?

Request 2: Is it possible to get a brief release notes posted with the DNN downloads per version (if there is one, I wasn't able to find it) that details new features and breaking changes?

Okay, I have figured out the following:

1. The user registration is broken/lame ONLY when a custom user account page is defined in Site Settings. Evidentally the registration module that is placeable on a page is not the same as what is show by default in when the site's "User Page" setting is set to "Not Specified".

Once the user page is not specified, the new user account control is much more savvy at registering and maintaining its user profile information.

What permissions does the DB user you are using to run DNN have?

The db user has appropriate permissions as evidenced by the fact that I have had no trouble with user registration once I did away with a custom user profile/registration page. Were you referring to the profile provider problem?

As a quick update, I have worked through most of these issues (and learned quite a bit along the way). I have ditched the Catalook module (and replaced it), upgraded my own custom mods to 4.3.2, and generally clawed my way back into a stable environment. Most of my problems would seem to stem from the fact that I had a custom registration/user detail page. The users that registered from that source did not correctly fill in their profile details. This caused problems with any modules that expected those profile details to be in order.

I think the notable bug (and it should be reproducable) can be generated with these steps:

1. Add a "User Account" module to a new tab.
2. In site settings (under "Advanced Settings" Section) select the tab in step 1.
3. Begin the registration process and note that you are registering through the custom page and that the registration control is of the old style.
4. Complete registration and login.
5. Note that the link that WOULD have allowed you to modify your profile is missing, and that if you navigate to the custom registration/user profile page, all of the profile details that you may have entered in step 3. have been lost. Also note that the administrator's manage user controls crash whenever a user registration of this kind is to be displayed.

I am not sure if this issue is a result of upgrading from dnn4.0.3 (which is what i did) or if it can be duplicated on a clean install.

I got in this state by:
1. Creating custom registration/user profile tab in dnn 4.0.3
2. Upgrading to 4.3.2

thanks for the reply,

Check your SQL logs for 3.02.03 and 4.00.04 and see if there are any errors.  If there are errors in the scripts then the user did not have enough permissions to upgrade certain data for use with the new provile/role provider.  That is why I wanted to know what permissions the database user had.  If there are no errors then you should be okay as far as the upgrade goes.
