We need a training session forum that requires the following features:

 1 Forums for each training session.

 2 Ability to post public messages to forums with optional attachments.

 3 Ability to post private messages to a user with optional attachments.

 4 Online real time chat with tracking of time spent for billing purposes.

I believe the forums module is capable of 1 -3, but I'm not sure about 4. If it is can someone point me to some information on how to do so, if not does anyone know of any custom modules that are capable of these?

You are correct, partially, it is capable of 1-2. If you mean private messages as a private forum, then 3 too. If you mean private user messages then not yet. I have all the private messaging already in the module but hidden. It is not capable of having attachments though.

I am not sure how exactly you want to handle 4 though. If you mean actual time spent in the forum module, good luck with that one because of the stateless nature of http. If you simply mean some logging mechanism, you are going to need some other module or some custom programming.
