We have an internal site where our "Send Password Reset Link" results in this error.

Your new password was not accepted for security reasons. Please enter a password that you haven't used before and is long and complex enough to meet the site's password complexity requirements. 

We have other DNN sites that are working correctly that return this dialog when we you click the "Send Password Reset Link".

If the username entered was correct, you should receive a new email shortly with a link to reset your password.

I'm trying to figure what's up with this internal DNN site that it's not working correctly?

which DNN version and how does password configuration in Admin > Site Settings look like?

I had the same error on DNN 9.1.0.
It was because the email in users and aspnet_membership tables where not the same.
