What is the best way to achieve the following regarding logins.

1. email addresses need to be verified.

2. we will manage user registrations internally

3. don't want the ability to register (ie remove the word) from public facing pages)

Thanks in advance.

Todd

Todd,

under Admin :: Site Settings, tab "User Acount Settings" select "None" from the radio buttons labeled "User registration". If you do that the Register Button is not displayed and you can add users manually. Therefore it seems a bit useless to me to verify email addresses, or am I misunderstanding something?

If you choose "Private", users may register but you have to authorize them manually.

If you choose "Verified", users may register but have to enter a security code that gets emailed to them when they login for the first time.

Does this answer your question?

Happy DNNing!
Michael

if you want registration with automatic email verification AND manual review of registrants, I suggest using a dedicated "members" role besides "registered users". You would reserve all private content to the "members" role and use "registered users" just for general information, same as unauthenticated users.

Thanks for your response Michael,

We will use a form (like a sign up) that will create the user but still want to verify their email.

Sort of like you have to buy a subscription from us to become a user & get access to our site.

Does that make sense?

Todd,

in this case I think that Sebastian's proposal makes sense. You can use the "normal" registration process, and verify the email by the appropriate setting. As soon as they have logged in for the first time (and therefore verified their email address) you can assign them manually to an extra group (e.g. "Members"), and aloow only this role to access specific pages.

Also have a look at the subscription tools by Ventrian: http://www.ventrian.com/modules/subsc... - this might be helpful in your case.

Happy DNNing!
Michael
