For quite some time I have wondered if there is a mechanism inside DNN for removing files from ContentItems.

I am currently using AttachmentController (as recommended) to programmatically add files to ContentItems. But from time to time I also need the ability to remove files from said ContentItems. And this is where I usually run into a wall. Either I am bad at finding what I need in DNN API or there really is no programmatic mechanism for removing files from ContentItems.

As a workaround, I been updating manually the corresponding Files MetaDataValue string that is stored in ContentItems_MetaData table using IDataContext and SQL queries. But this approach just doesn't sit right with me. Manually updating a string is OK, but what if you remove the last file? Should you clean up the corresponding ContentItems_MetaData record or assign an empty string to it? Sorry, sometimes I think too had. Anyways...

If someone knows of a Controller or Manager in DNN API that is capable of achieving this task please let me know.

Or perhaps you know of a better way to remove ContentItem files? Do let me know.

Just in case someone wonders I am coding for DNN 7.4.2
