Hi

I have been assigned a task for a dotnetnuke upgradation on a testing server before doing it on the live server. So far I haven't done an upgrade or installation. Can anyone suggest me the step by step process of upgradation. Can I do a direct upgrade or I need to upgrade to the close version and then finally update with the latest version.

Thanks in Advance

Raneesh

Hello,

Here is a link about upgrades where you will find information about upgrading
http://www.dnnsoftware.com/wiki/upgra...

Extra tip: I happened to have done an upgrade from DNN5 to DNN8. I would recommend you don't upgrade directly to the latest version (personally I had issues when I did that). What I did and worked is that I upgraded to the latest version of my current version, then to the first version of the next version and then to the last version of the next version. To explain it better, in your case I would do this:
1. Upgrade to the latest version of DNN 5
2. Upgrade to the first version of DNN6
3. Upgrade to the last version of DNN6
4. Upgrade to the first version of DNN7
5. Upgrade to the last version of DNN7
6. Upgrade to the first version of DNN8
7. Upgrade to the last version of DNN8

At each upgrade check for errors during the installation and in the event viewer and keep backups before each upgrade.

Also be prepared that your skin will most probably explode and won't be working as well as modules that are very old. Keep that in mind because you will probably need to upgrade/change your skin and upgrade older modules (third party modules I mean)

you shouldn't upgrade to the first version of any major DNN, please follow suggested upgrade path, e.g. 5.6.8, 6.1.2, 6.2.8, 7.1.2, 7.4.2 and 8.0.4
Always make sure, the application pool is running proper version of .Net Framework in integrated mode.

Really???? The scenario I described has always worked without problems.. Is somewhere the correct upgrade sequence documented so that I can follow it from now on? I found this link http://www.dnnsoftware.com/wiki/sugge... but it stops at 7.03.02.
