This has been an ongoing headache with my site for some time.

The remember me checkbox that appears on the login page doesn't do anything. No matter whether it is checked or not, returning to the site always prompts for a login and never remembers anything.

Things I've checked:

  • The tickbox to enable the remember me function is checked on Host Settings.
  • In the web.config in appSettings I have: <add key="PersistentCookieTimeout" value="20160" />
  • In the web.config in forms I have: <forms name=".DOTNETNUKE" protection="All" timeout="525600" requireSSL="true" cookieless="UseCookies" />

The site runs on SSL, is hosted on an IIS server that I administer. It's been originally deployed as DNN 6 and gradually upgraded through to the latest V7 version. It's currently running 7.04.02 (with some manual tweaking around security issues as recommended)

remember me only works, if users don't hit "logout" before leaving the site. In this case, they should be logged in automatically, when returning within the next 2 weeks (according to your settings).

Yes, but that's not happening for me. I can personally verify that if I browse the site, and log in checking the box, and then close the browser and return a few minutes later, I have to log in again. You can try it yourself at www.ka72.com (perhaps there is something different about your machine that makes it work.)

Dylan.

there seem to be an issue with your home page not picking up the persistent cookie properly. once I click on any other page I am logged in.

OK any thoughts on that? I can't imagine why the cookie is not working on the homepage only. (I'll start googling though....)
