I inadvertently installed my website skin from Hosts/Extensions as well as Admin/Extensions. Now it appears in the _default/Skins and the 0/Skins directories. I think I only want it in the portal id directory. How do I removed it only from the _default directory? Thanks.

You can simply go to physical location of skin under _default folder and delete it. But yeah before that make sure that location reference isn't given on any page, else that will error out. I mean no page should be applied to host skin then. If applied, then just update to portal level skin and you can remove then.

Jeremy,

Varun is right. The only thing you should not delete is the system's standard theme (which is installed in the _default directory). I you have a page that uses the deleted theme, it will use the default theme instead and display an error message, so that should be easy to fix.

But it normally is no problem when you installed the skin in both directories. Installing a theme in the _default directory means it is a "host" theme that is available for all portals of your DNN installation. A "portal" theme (which is installed in the portal's direcory) is only available to that portal.

Happy DNNing!

Ah, sorry, I should mention that you can delete the theme from Admin :: Themes as well. Just uncheck the "Site" theme type, and select the theme and container from the drop down list. If anything is in use, you get a message saying "This set of themes cannot be deleted because it is being used".

Happy DNNing!
