Hello,

I am not yet very experienced with DNN, so I hope I am asking the question correctly - please bear with me.

I am maintaining a DNN site that was created and set up by someone else using DNN 7.3.2.
Upgrading to DNN 7.4.2. worked perfectly. But my update to DNN 8.0.4 (in my development environment) causes the following problem:

The skin.css and one important js file are ONLY loaded when logged in as administrator or host, so that our custom modules are not displayed correctly for users who are not logged in or are logged in as a regular user (I have not yet tried out what happens if one logs in as site administrator).

I already checked the security settings of the BIN folder - as far as I can see, it is set correctly, giving full control to the IUSR that was set in the Application Pool in IIS.

Any input on what else needs to be changed or addressed is greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Britta

most likely there are issues with cached files. Did you select "clear Cache" in control bar on top of the page?

Sebastian,

thank you for your quick response!

With "clear Cache" in control bar on top of the page? do you mean Host - Host settings - Advanced Settings - Clear Cache ? That I already tried and it did not resolve the issue. If there is another way to clear the cache, please let me know.

I also tried incrementing the Host Version (Host -  Host settings - Advanced Settings - Client Resource Management - Increment Version). Here, I additionally disabled Enable Composite Files which helped me figuring out which css files are being loaded and which ones are not.

Could it maybe be any of the many configuration files that need to be adjusted?

Looking forward to your feedback
Britta

Britta,
yes, I meant the Option in control Panel on top of the page.
You should also clear local browser Cache.
If not being logged in, do you get errors when turning on "Display Errors" in your browser settings?

Sebastian,

Additionally clearing the Browser Cache did not help. But your hint of checking the errors in the console set me on the right path: the problem is not the skin.css (that one is loaded just fine - other than I initially stated) but with jQuery. All errors read Uncaught ReferenceError: jQuery is not defined(…) which tells me that the jQuery library is either not loaded at all or not loaded before it is used. Just for testing this hypothesis, I included the jQuery reference manually to the page header of one of the messed up pages (using Edit Page - Page Appearance - Page Header Tags) and voila, the page worked properly when not logged in!

Of course then when I log back in, I receive other errors because now jQuery is probably loaded twice (and maybe in conflicting versions) and adding jQuery manually does not seem to be the correct measure anyway.

So the new question is: How can I get jQuery to load even when not logged in? It did work properly in DNN 7.x, so is there possibly a difference in the way DNN handles header tags?

Thanks for your ongoing support - I really appreciate your help!

Best,
Britta
