Hello all,

I'm loosing sleep tryint to migrate my DNN installation to a new hosting environment. Apart from having to face the full trust/medium trust issue in due time, I'm confronted with a much more trivial problem at the time. I can't restore my DB backup on the production server because the SQL Servers versions are different. 

I had issues with mine and had to forcefully migrate to SQLExpress 2014. Unfortunately my new hosting environment uses SQL Server 2012 and there is no way I can convert the DB back to a compatible format. I tried scripts but it gives an "Out of memory error".

I devised a workaround for my other less complex DBs. I'm connecting to the remote server via SQL Management Studio and using the Import Data Wizard to import tables and scripts to import views and stored procedures. Do you think this stunt could work with a DNN database? I ask because nobody but the core developers really know what's exactly inside the DNN database, plus I'm asking myself if this kind of transfer would import the constraints and other similar rules.

Any idea if this would work or is it just a massive waste of time?

You might be a good candidate for the Evotiva DNNBackup module. I've had great success in moving DNN Databases "down" to lesser SQL Server installations using it. Basically it scripts the datatabase and seems to be mostly insensitive to change in SQL Server versions. As long as your DNN is not using features of the later SQL Server, you shouldn't have a problem.

As long as it works.

I'm sort of desperate now cause the old 2008 backup I had is compromised and I still haven't found a way to downgrade my SQL database from 2014 to 2008 or 2012. I tried scripting the database objects as suggested by some on the net but I get an out of memory error right away.

I tried reading the features of this module but downgrading DBs to previous versions is not mentioned anywhere

Any ideas how to go about this?
